Hi! It’s been quite awhile since my last post (eight whole months 🤯) and oh so much has happened since then! The short story is… we moved back across the country, I am officially no longer a tenure track professor, and I’m now full time stay at home parenting while Mike works. If you want a few more details, here’s what we’ve been up to since February…
Read MoreI did something pretty big really huge last week... I quit my job. I submitted my formal resignation to my dean and as of June 2022 I will no longer be an assistant professor. To be honest with you, it feels like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders.
Read MoreFor me (and so many others), the 2019-2020 school year was one big crisis after another. Although I checked off a lot of the boxes I was "supposed to," on most days I felt like I was just going through the motions. The 2020-2021 school year had a similar feel to it. The pandemic continued to wreak havoc on so many different aspects of life. Not to mention that pregnancy and my mom's continued health challenges made it really difficult to do any sort of professional planning/goal setting... so I didn't! 😅
Read MoreI recently wrote an update on how my third trimester went and how the early postpartum period has been going. Since I provided a bunch of life updates in that post I won't rehash things here. To give you a 2 sentence summary of our lives in the past 6ish months... spring term was all about getting to the end of pregnancy and it was exhausting! Summer has been all about recovery and rest.
Read MoreI'm coming back to the tenure pause discussion one last time. If you follow me on instagram or subscribe to my newsletter you know that I decided to pause my tenure clock. The main reason behind this decision was timing. My materials would have been due pretty early in the postpartum period. Materials for external reviews were due in July (about 2 months postpartum) and the final review would have been due in early October (about 4.5 months postpartum). I didn't want to bank on recovery being an easy process that would allow me the mental space to write/compile my materials (in hindsight this was 1000% the right decision).

Read MoreAs I enter the final few weeks of this pregnancy (I'm currently 37 weeks as I'm writing this), I've been thinking about some of the things I've learned since finding out baby #2 was on the way, way back in early September. It's also been interesting to compare this experience with my experience as a pregnant PhD student on the job market (which you can read about here, here, and here).
Read MoreIt’s the end of March and that means its time for a quarterly update, and what a quarter it’s been. Between work, life, the world, growing a human… all the things, I’m exhausted (and I’m sure you are too)!
Read MoreIt’s hard to believe that the second trimester for baby #2 is officially over! If you’re interested in reading a recap of the first trimester, you can do that here. Looking back, it felt like the second trimester was just one thing after another, which has left me exhausted as I enter the third (and final!) trimester of pregnancy.
