Weekly Update: 6/3 - 6/9
reflection
This week Mike and I celebrated 8 years of marriage… by flying across the country with a three year old, which is probably the most fun way you could spend an anniversary. It actually wasn’t that bad. Everything went as smoothly as it could go, we didn’t have any major meltdowns, and the airplane snacks/drinks kept Ellie entertained for a really long time. In an effort to make our trip (that is both for us to see family and for me to attend a conference) feel less hectic, I tried to get as much non-grading related work out of the way before we left. It still feels hectic… however, I’m glad that I made an effort to wrap a few things up early/get myself super organized with grading, because it could feel worse! As someone who enjoys firm boundaries between work time and personal time, I struggle when the lines get blurred, and traveling to see family while also still working is one of those times. If I were to schedule a trip like this again during this time of year, I’d lower my expectations even more, especially considering the time change with a young kid. Thankfully Ellie’s sleep hasn’t been great to begin with, so it’s not like we’re messing with anything that’s going well. Should be a fun time getting readjusted when we’re back. This is also a week where my list doesn’t feel like it fully reflects all the things that went on… especially the little things like sending off last minute emails and checking in to our flight and packing and all the details that come with travel.

Paper 3: My goals for the week were to write a draft of analyses/findings and send it off to a co-author. Goal met? Yes… miraculously!
Paper 5: My goals for the week were to finalize edits of my draft of the intro and send it off to a co-author. Goal met? Yes… again miraculously.
teaching
Course prep (condensed stats course): My goals for the week were to write up feedback on article critiques, print their final assignments, grade 3 final assignments per day, and write up feedback for final assignments. Goal met? Got about 50% of this done. I printed final assignments and graded them but did not formally write up feedback for anything... I have notes written but didn’t get them ready for students yet.
Course prep (online human dev course): My goals for the week were to post an update for the final week of the term, update the grade book with discussion posts grades, print out final assignments, and grade 2 assignments per day. Goal met? Yes.

Planning: My goals for the week were to plan for the current week (on Monday) and to have my weekly list ready to go on Friday with Monday’s tasks picked out. Goal met? Yes. Got things laid out for the week on Monday and had my list ready to go on Friday PM.

personal
Workouts: One lifting session and two 20 minute yoga sessions, plus two long walks (totaling about 3 miles).
Toddler on the Tenure Track: Goal: Get 2 posts up on the blog. Goal met? Yes… I had a bunch of drafts almost ready to go so a number of new posts went out this past week.
Meditation: June starts my meditation focus. Since June 1, I’ve done the allotted amount of time each day (today is 13 minutes). I’m giving myself 1/2 “points” for two nights where I meditated after midnight (right before I went to bed)… technically it wouldn’t be past midnight if I was on the west coast! With travel and working after Mike and Ellie were in bed, I was on my computer late and didn’t get into bed until after midnight (my screen time/bed time routine have gone out the window for the moment). All meditations have been unguided.
Budget: ✗ not with travel but I have been keeping an eye on it
